Teen Writing Workshop

15 May 2018

I just got back from running a teen writing workshop at the public library. It was a lot of fun! The students enjoyed the activities and were engaged for the full hour and a half. Even some of the teens who said they didn’t like writing got involved and tried some of the more challenging activities. They were really creative, so I thought I’d share some of the things the came up with:
Activity 1) If the students came up with 10 adjectives to describe a candy, they could win a piece of that candy. Some of them had really clever adjectives: sensational, marvelous, meltable, etc.

Activity 3) Students could create snapchat captions for pictures. I included the ones that were my favorite, but it was hard to choose!

Mother’s Day

13 May 2018

I hope you enjoy this Mother’s Day parody I wrote of Dwayne Johnson’s “You’re Welcome” from Moana.

Ok, ok, I see what’s happening, yeah
You’re face to face with greatness, and it’s strange
You don’t even know how you feel
It’s adorable!
Well, it’s nice to see that children never change
Open your eyes, let’s begin
Yes, it’s really me, your mother: breathe it in!
I know it’s a lot: seen all in sum
When you’re staring at a loving mum
What can I say except you’re welcome
For the food, the love, the prom
Hey, it’s okay, it’s okay
You’re welcome
I’m just an ordinary kind of mom
Hey!
What has two thumbs and came when you cried
When you were waddling yay high?
This gal!
When the nights got cold
Who tucked you in for beddy-bye?
You’re lookin’ at her, y’all
Oh, also I bought you Nerf guns
You’re welcome!
And toys and games to bring you fun
Also I bandaged your knees
You’re welcome!
When you scraped them while climbing trees
So what can I say except you’re welcome
For the dinners that I made for free
There’s no need to pay, it’s okay
You’re welcome!
I guess it’s just my way of being me
You’re welcome!
You’re welcome!
Well, come to think of it
Kid, honestly I can go on and on
I can explain every mother phenomenon
The care, the home, the games, oh
That was Mommy just messing around
You threw a fit
You said it was lies
5 years later, now you say I was wise
What’s the lesson?
What is the take-away?
Listen to Mom, ‘cause she’s always right anyway
And the crazy ol’ life I have known
Is a map of the ways you have grown
Look where I’ve been
I make everything happen
Look at that picture of mini-you tippity-tappin’
Well, anyway let me say you’re welcome
For the wonderful world you know
Hey, it’s okay, it’s okay
You’re welcome!
Well, come to think of it, I gotta go
Hey, it’s your day to say you’re welcome
‘Cause today is Mother’s Day
I’m taking a nap, okay
You’re welcome!
‘Cause Mother can do anything but rest
You’re welcome!
You’re welcome!

Illinois Visit

26 January 2018

Just did my first author visit in Illinois today! It was a lot of fun! The students were asking lots of good questions like: Where do you get ideas for stories? How do you publish a book? What do you do when you don’t know where to take your story next?

Their teacher shared some of their writing projects with me, which were really well done! Their next planned project is to write a chapter book, so I got to share some advice on how to create enough content to fill a chapter book, as well as general advice on editing and revising.

All in all, it was a very fun visit! I couldn’t think of a better way to end the week.

Writing Update

15 November 2017
Since I have not been very active on my website or Facebook page recently, I wanted to give an update on my writing:
I have continued writing the past few years, but so far Diary of a Cabin Girl and Diary of a Patriot are my only published works. I wrote two stories since then for fun (one historical fiction and one fantasy), and more recently I have been working on a series of short stories and a nonfiction book. I am considering pursuing publishing some of them, but they are all rough drafts as of now. I will post updates if I decide to publish them.

2 More Days

17 April 2013

Diary of a Patriot will officially be available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon this Friday, April 19!

Final Touches

5 April 2013

Working on that last details of Diary of a Patriot! Hoping to finish them up by next week. For as much as I love writing, and as much as publishing a book is fun, the work is just as hard. I am glad to be in the final stretch. Be on the lookout for it soon!

Second Book!

1 February 2013

This afternoon, I signed the publishing agreement for my second book, Diary of a Patriot! It is the second book in the Heritage Diaries series. I am excited to be back in the publishing process!

Sequel

2 September 2012

I have just finished writing the sequel to Diary of a Cabin Girl! I am very excited, but there are still a lot of rough edges that need to be smoothed.

Book Presentation and Signing at Orange Library

10 January 2012

This Saturday, January 14, I will be at the Orange branch of the Delaware Library to give a presentation! I am exited, but nervous, since it is my first presentation. I will be bringing copies to sign afterwards, which I will be selling for $7. The presentation will be at 2:00. If you’re in the area, stop by!
